Women’s Health SmackDown!

Healthy girls-women

New guidelines announced recently by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has effectively been a new SMACKDOWN for American women – both young and old.  ACOG now says women in their 20s can have a Pap smear every 2 years instead of annually to catch the slow-growing cervical cancer.  President Obama’s White Coat Physician Warriors (WCPW) are on a march  against women’s health.   (Remember when President Obama presented white coats to physicians at the White House.   There was a big photo op where each physician got their very own white coat and a paid FREE trip to Washington, DC on the backs of taxpayers).  Next, they they will take on men’s health , etc.

No Need for Rationing: Just Change all the Health Guidelines.

The Obama administration’s goal may be to change current health guidelines used for the prevention of disease – mammograms, pap smear, DEXA, colonoscopy, PSA, Cholsterol, Imaging Tests, etc.   The strategy will take effect that 2014 when the Government Run Health Insurance begins.  Therefore,  patients won’t need to routinely get these tests.    This will be an incredible savings for the federal government. In fact, David Axelrod, the President’s spin czar,  can spin the lack of reimbursement for testing in such a way that so taxpayers hear that “we haven’t really needed these expensive tests all these years, but your doctors or hospitals have been just getting rich off of requiring these useless tests.”

It’s very shrewd and impressive how the Obama administration is going about changing the culture of our healthcare behind the scenes. First, you get the white coat warriors on board by promising them a prominent place in the new order of health care business when the government takes over completely.  But what the white coat warriors don’t seem to get is, this latest smackdown on women’s health will affect their bottom line, too. Based on the new mammogram guidelines, now the new Pap Smear guidelines, next the new guidelines for prenatal care will be see the pregnant women only 4 times during their pregnancy and no ultrasounds, special testing for birth defects won’t be allowed.

Let me think about this, if all the major respected groups like ACOG come out with changes in guidelines that will the save the federal government  money, while the government is putting money into the organizations pockets like it did with the AMA, then that’s a good thing for the individual organizations.  But here’s what we might get.  None of the demonic health insurance companies are going to change their policies because the administration has been very clear on how awful the health insurance companies are.

Secretary of Health & Human Service, Kathleen Sebelius says the federal government is not going to change the current policy on mammograms. It took her 2 days to respond to the mammogram controversy and two days to find another medical entity (ACOG) to provide the women the news about change the Pap Smear guidelines. Not sure the Obama administration realized how women voters negatively would respond to the smackdown on women’s health. But once the government takes over health care (2014), we’ll very likely see the  enforcement of these new  guidelines. The goal may be that taxpayers will be forced to pay for any screening tests out of our own pocket so the government-run health insurance will cease to pay for any of these tests.

Kentucky’s own Congressman, John Yarmuth, an advocate for single payer health insurance, said on November 25, on Fox News when asked about the recent change in mammogram guidelines from the US Preventive Services Task Force “that people will just have to get use to paying for these tests if they want them.”  Remember when Obama said change is coming – well he meant it in health care!  When he said Americans should be in charge of their own health – he meant it.  And what he meant was that Americans will have to pay out of pocket if they want to be proactive about their health.   So all those people who have gotten their private health insurer to pay for the lapband surgeries and gastric bypasses – will be on your own nickel when the government is in control of our healthcare.

No Yearly Pap Smear, No Yearly Mammogram Why even go the GYN?

So what I am piecing together is, if you don’t need a yearly pap smear, you don’t need a yearly mammogram, then don’t need a DEXA scan, why even go to the GYN yearly.  It will save everybody money and time, especially the government.  Think of all the money they spend now for Medicare and Medicaid on all these useless visits.

Cervical Cancer – What’s the Big Deal?

Let me get this straight, 4 years ago when the cervical cancer vaccine came out, cervical cancer was billed as a killer. The CDC and Merck clearly made  out that every parent who didn’t have their 10 – 14 year old child immunized were irresponsible even though the statistics, at that time, didn’t show that cervical cancer was a major killer in the US. Luckily, Merck made billions of dollars ($450 per 3 shot series) because of the CDC’s recommendation.  No one knows how long the immunization will protect these girls and will most likely have to have a booster shot as the years go by. But, the recent announcement by the ACOG about cervical cancer makes me feel like if cervical cancer is so slow growing then what was  the big rush about getting our children immunized?   Why force our children to have an expensive immunization? Why not promote the use of condoms which would help prevent pregnancy, any sexually transmitted diseases and yes even cervical cancer.
