With so much growth in pesticide usage and genetically modified fruit and vegetables is it better to just not them if you cannot afford organic fruits and vegetables?
Absolutely not – do not skip your fruits and vegetables because you can’t afford to buy organic. Here’s the most contaminated fruits and vegetables – peaches, apples, sweet bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, lettuce, imported grapes, spinach, pears and potatoes. The least contaminated fruits and vegetables are onions, avocados, sweet corn (frozen), pineapples, mangos, asparagus, sweet peas (frozen), kiwifruit, bananas, cabbage, broccoli and eggplant. If exposure to pesticides alarms you buy regular fruits and vegetables that are least contaminated but buy organically grown fruits and vegetables that are the most contaminated. Organic foods will cost more for example: a pound of apples is about $1.79 – organic apples at $2.49; one pound of bell peppers is about $1.49 – organic bell peppers $3.98; one 6-ounce bag of spinach is about $1.98 – organic spinach is $3.98.
